I thought I'd share something a bit different with you all today. I have posted a few fitness related posts before, but not in ages, so here's my most recent fitness activity. Yoga.
When I moved back to college I decided to join the gym and get a little bit fitter and build some all over tone and muscle (more on that in another post). But I also started a yoga class. I have dabbled in some yoga before, watching Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube and attending a class at home during the summer, so I was quite excited to get in to a regular routine. I do still miss weeks here and there but I've been a few times since I joined in September and find the results from it are great. I immediately feel calmer, more relaxed, happier and at ease after a class, as well as being more flexible. I find it a really nice way to stretch out after a few days at the gym too.
I know yoga and meditation have become a bit of a trend at the minute, and everyone seems to be trying it out, but as far as I'm concerned it's the best damn trend out there (sorry fashion!). But for me it has become a bit more of a lifestyle thing than just something I'm trying out, only to move on to the next fad in a few months. I've never been into exercise but this is one I can get on board with.
Benefits of Yoga
- Improves flexibility
- Builds Muscle Strength
- Improves Posture & Balance
- Increases blood flow / Lowers blood pressure
- Boosts Immunity
- Increases Serotonin (the happy hormone)
- Helps you focus
- Helps you sleep deeper
- Increases self-esteem
So if you're looking for a new fitness regime, for both the body and the mind, then why not give yoga a try. Go on Youtube and look up some free tutorials. I'd recommend The 30 Day Yoga Challenge from Yoga with Adrienne. It's great for beginners and that's exactly how I started. Otherwise, check out and classes going on in your locality. They're never crazy expensive anyway and it would be a handy way to try it out properly too.
